This historic hotel, the American House, is at the corner of Indian Creek Road and Second Avenue in Happy Camp, California. It was originally built by Henry Doolittle in the 1850’s and was a stage stop and welcome hostel for traveling pioneers of the Klamath River Valley. When they reached Happy Camp, they knew they would have a nice place to spend the night.

Hi Margie – you might like our Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/36309695954/ … I haven’t been in Happy Camp since 2013 but plan to go back later this year. Really looking forward to being home again! (I’m living in Northern Idaho right now.)
Ruthy was my husband’s cousin. We visited and wrote until she passed away in nursing home.
